Spoken Word, a channel for our youth

I feel a change is coming. I was thinking about Obama the other night, hoping he was going to be the one to help us out of debt, hoping he was going to be the one to help us open our minds to new ways of living and thinking. I love seeing students like myself really caring about the world and wanting to be involved in big decisions that can lead to change. What sorts of things would get you more involved politically? What sorts of things do you care about? A few years ago I felt like kids didn’t care who was the president, they didn’t consider big issues and felt like they couldn’t make a difference, or maybe that was just me. But now, now everything is different. My fog has been lifted. I do care. This chick rocked the mic, it would be great if we could all find ways to express ourselves and out beliefs through forms of art and speech. Check it out. Would this get your attention? If not, what would?

  1. This definetly caught my attention. I especially liked how she said that the poem is about her talking to God about “issues” that we face today.

She took the action to write a poem, and even if she said that she’s “talking to God”, it felt as if she was talking to us.

We’re too busy to do anything. Soulja Boy dance, listening to iTunes, “but can [we] die tomorrow knowing that [we] did all that I could? Nah I can’t”

Saying that our world is the “Hills”, degrading women’s worth. Corruption that we elect… Being selfish -> forgetting the word sacrifice in our vocabulary. Why elect then? Why degrade? Can’t we change for the better?

    GLOBAL WARMING.

The metaphors that she used such as the Hills, to the kids, and using other creativity sources (the Seventh day that God has rested) all invokes our minds into questioning: what are we doing here? We’re wasting our time doing nothing…

We watched this video and became “uplifted” from the fog, and yet we’re still doing nothing. I’m still listening to my iTunes and dancing to Soulja Boy… Hmmm… Why?

“I was thinking about Obama the other night, hoping he was going to be the one to help us out of debt, hoping he was going to be the one to help us open our minds to new ways of living and thinking.”
Hope has always been there. It is up to us if we’re going to take actions to take care of these things. New ways of living and thinking? Post a video and express yourself.
After that, wait for people to respond.
    Better yet, DO SOMETHING.

I think that was the message she was trying to convey.
    Nice thread! Really enjoyed it.
It would be cool if this could become one of our missions:
Post a video and express yourself.
