Hip-hop receiving too much blame?

Many people associate hip-hop with violence, drug use, degrading of women, when in reality hip-hop is no different than the TV shows, video games, and movies you watch. Next time you listen to a hip-hop song listen to the lyrics and try to tell me it is contains more vulgar material than Rambo 4, Die Hard, or video games like Grand Theft Auto, True Crime, etc. The blame should not be placed solely on the shoulders of the hip-hop industry. Here’s an interesting piece regarding this topic.

this reminds me of a stand up i saw awhile back. she says no one listens to mainstream rap artists to be real, its a fantasy. check it. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pgkJaBUR1P4

  2. I think the video answered your own question, it isn’t the hip hop industries fault for the stigma that rap culture has now. It is the fault of the people how choose to listen to the music that shape the types of music that surface to the mainstream and in general define a genre, for better or for worse. Also saying that, gangster rap isn’t the only type of rap out there, there are other types of rap to listen just like how when nu metal (ie limp bizkit) was popular.

  3. The image of being being part of the rap culture is quite glorified in every music video the rap industry puts out. That isn’t to say that all of the artist live this way, but it gives the idea that they do and most young impressionable minds are really struck by that lifestyle.
