so gay..

I see this commercial a lot and just thought that it was really annoying.

No matter what, people will always say that, and even if “gay” is being said, it doesn’t mean that people are using it in that sort of context. Freedom of speech? I think not. It never really bothered people then, and it shouldn’t really bother us now.

I would like to say, this commercial is “so gay.” What are they gonna do now? :p

  1. You’re “really annoyed” by this commercial, yet you have no sensitivity to people who are upset by that kind of language?

Check yourself. You’re fortunate enough to be in a privileged position, and no one is trying to keep you down. Proposition 8’s passage in the recent election is just more proof that homosexuals are still not equal in this society and are still being treated as if they are second class citizens.

Don’t speak for everyone when you say that this type of language and the use of “gay” as a synonym for something negative or detestable is fair. I’m straight and it bothers me. It SHOULD bother you. Homophobia is the last socially acceptable prejudice in America today, even as homosexuals remain a strong political, social, economic, and cultural forces.

The way you trivialize freedom of speech and your juvenile attitude toward serious social injustices is superficial and without substance. Maybe you should actually listen to what these PSAs are saying.

just saying, but it looks like your side doesn’t have as much support as it thought it did.

  3. This commercial is just trying to make people aware and conscience of the things we say. you may be unaware that the things you are saying is having a negative effect or offending others.

  4. hmmm… I wonder if people will ever stop saying “gay”.
That would be a huge change. I even say that when there are no gay people around. It comes out unconsciously, its probably the same way for everyone else. I would imagine this problem will last for awhile.
