  1. As much as I think l33tspeak is retarded and corrosive to people’s intellect, I have a hard time thinking of ways around it. I’ve studied enough into linguistics and cognitive development to understand that this evolution in language is inevitable. It brings up bad memories of Double Speak in Orwell’s 1984 but it’s probably harmless. My guess it that it will pop up occasionally in speech and in junior high papers but never go much further. It’s a linguistic dead end.

  2. My thoughts as I read this guide were “Are these guys for real or what?”. As I pressed on into the guide i began to get flashbacks of something i read on the internet many many years ago:

    I believe that both of these articles work off of the propaganda and half-truths about the internet. The type of people who wrote both these articles were over reactive zealots who bought into the whole “the internet is a dangerous place” scheme.

    the article fails to clearly show how leetspeak is dangerous to kids – that was its intended point, right?
