Symbol of Evil Omens

Why do some people believe that black cats bring bad luck?  Black cats are one of the traditional Halloween characters.  Who decided black cats were associated with evil?

I have a lovely, sweet black cat, and I don’t like people thinking that black cats represent evil spirits because they are just innocent cats.  I understand some people believe good luck and bad luck, but I just don’t like people avoid black cats because of the color of the hair.

Do you believe black cats bring bad luck?  If so, why?  Can you prove that something bad happened to you because of the black cat?

  1. I don’t believe black cats bring bad luck. Maybe someone made that up back in the day and people started acting more carefully than usual after coming across one. because of that, they started noticing everything (usually bad) that occurs after their encounter with a black feline, thus perpetuating the stupid idea.

no i don’t believe that evil omens or symbols really bring bad luck. you make your own luck, and that’s all there is to it.

Well, I don’t believe that black cats bring bad luck. However, I do know that black cats were associated with witches. The cats were suspected to be the familiars of witches. The black cat were supposedly to be shape shifters, and that witches would be able to turn into them and do evil things. And as to who “decided” that black cats were evil was the church.

  3. Its all about superstition. Does it make it true? Not really. People create these superstitions i dont really understand why but i guess if you believe it then you start looking for evidence that makes it true.

  4. I’m sure that it’s just a superstition. I love black cats and I don’t find them scary at all. I believe that it was the church that declared black cats symbols of bad luck as they were associated with witches.
